Steam update: Peggle weekend sale, new Ubisoft games and more

It's been a busy week for the stock market, most of it bad. Thankfully the folks at Valve know that everyone appreciates a sale and this weekend's game on sale via Steam is the original Peggle title from Popcap. The casual arcade game is normally $9.99 but you can grab it for just $4.99 this weekend. The sequel, Peggle Nights, will be released on Steam on Oct. 15

That's not all that's gone on at Steam, however. The download service just added a number of older Ubisoft games to its line-up, including both expansion packs for Heroes of Might and Magic V, The Settlers: Rise of an Empire Gold Edition, The Sum of All Fears and Brain Spa. All of these games are 10 percent off their normal prices on Steam until Oct. 17. You can also pre-order Far Cry 2 via Steam and get $5 off its normal price until its release on Oct. 22.

You want more? How about that World of Goo, the award winning indepdent puzzle/construction game from the two man dev team called 2D Boy, will make its worldwide debut via Steam Oct. 13? Pre-orders for the game are being taken for $19.99 and the Steam version will contain achievements via Steamworks. Finally, pre-orders are being taken for Egosoft's X3: Terran Conflict, the space trading-combat game. The release has now been confirmed for Oct. 17.

First Hinterland free content update released

As promised earlier this week, the folks at Tilted Mill did not waste any time in releasing the first free content expansion for their fantasy RPG-village building sim Hinterland. The full game was released only last week but this new content update is now available via Valve's Steam client.

As we previously reported, the new content update adds wo new characters (the Archer and the Dwarf Warrior) along with new features like creature specific item drops, a new character info screen, auto-equipping, acquiring resources through economic means and more. In addition, the update adds French, German and Spanish language support for the game along with numerous balance changes and bug fixes.

StarCraft 2 gameplay trailers storm through Blizzcon

Diablo 3 trailers call in the Wizard class

It was revealed at Blizzcon 2008 that the Wizard class will be making a return in Diablo 3. These videos show first looks at how the class will play in the upcoming, highly anticipated, action RPG. The gameplay trailers are a little show plenty of action and powerful spells.

Watch a Far Cry 2 map made in under 5 minutes

Prince of Persia trailer roof runs across TGS

Prince of Persia gets a little mellow at the 2008's Tokyo Game Show. This trailer shows off the gameplay, special abilities and a little combat from the upcoming action game. For those who are curious, the music playing in the background is "Breathe Me" by Sia. The game is scheduled to release this winter on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

America's Army to use new P2P network

In an effort to get copies of the free downloadable FPS America's Army faster to gamers, the US Army has announced a deal with a company called Pragmatic Solutions for the America's Army Deploy Client and Deploy Provider Network. This new P2P set-up is designed to get downloads and updates for the game quicker to gamers.

In addition to the P2P features, the press release states, "the Deploy Client serves as a launching pad for the America's Army Game Client where players can link to the community forum and gain access to support, additional features, and content which will be dynamically delivered." Future versions will allow players to log into all of the America's Army features with one sign-in. "With this single sign-in, players will be able to view their personnel jacket and game-play statistics, and use the Deploy Client browser to connect directly to a game server. First Sins of a Solar Empire micro-expansion gets release date

Last August Ironclad Games and Stardock announced plans for not one but three micro-expansions for their hit space strategy game Sins of a Solar Empire. Last night G4TV's X-Play program had a live preview of the first micro-expansion, Entrenchment, which will add new defensive units and weapons to the game.

The preview also announced a release date for Entrenchment with Ironclad co-founder Blair Frazer announcing that it would become available via Stardock's Impulse client on Nov. 18. As previously reported the micro-expansions will be sold for $9.99 each. The second micro-expansion, which will add some new diplomacy features to the game, should be out two to three months after Entrencement.

Crysis Wars free online multiplayer starts today

Today is the first day of the three day trial for Crysis Wars, the separate multiplayer experience that was shipped with Crytek's first person shooter Crysis Warhead last month.

Dead Space: Downfall clip uses strong medicine

This clip, titled "Hospital Bed," comes from Dead Space: Downfall, the animated straight to DVD/Blu-ray movie that ties into both the game and online comic book. The clip is rated R and contains explicit violence and language, so no streaming version was made available. Dead Space is scheduled to release this month on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Dead Space: Downfall is expected to release on DVD and Blu-ray on October 28th.

"An ancient religious artifact has been recovered by a deep-space mining ship, and for the crew of the USG Ishimura, life just became a living hell. Unearthed on a far-away planet during a mining operation, the relic is worshiped by some, even seen as proof of God. But when it's removed from its resting place and brought on the ship, the artifact unleashes a long-dormant alien race, one bent on ripping apart -- and taking over -- every human aboard.
