We are always wary of so-called "value priced" games. Unless they are pre-packaged versions of older games we love, the term "value priced" usually means "crappy". Hopefully the new Activision published game Secret Service will be an exception. The first person shooter will be priced at just $19.99 for the PC version.

The game depicts a fictional attack on Washington DC as your Secret Service character must fight to protect the US government and its leaders. The press release does state the game does not have the approval or input from the real US Secret Service. No development team is named but our press release does state it has "story and level design contributions" from former Naughty Dog team member Daniel Arey. The game will be released sometime later in 2008.

In an effort to get copies of the free downloadable FPS America's Army faster to gamers, the US Army has announced a deal with a company called Pragmatic Solutions for the America's Army Deploy Client and Deploy Provider Network. This new P2P set-up is designed to get downloads and updates for the game quicker to gamers.

In addition to the P2P features, the press release states, "the Deploy Client serves as a launching pad for the America's Army Game Client where players can link to the community forum and gain access to support, additional features, and content which will be dynamically delivered." Future versions will allow players to log into all of the America's Army features with one sign-in. "With this single sign-in, players will be able to view their personnel jacket and game-play statistics, and use the Deploy Client browser to connect directly to a game server. America's Army: Special Forces (Overmatch) v2.8.4 is being distributed for the first time through a new Deploy Client. This client lets users automatically download and install the full version of America's Army: Special Forces Overmatch and/or its latest patch updates. The Deploy Client will also act as the game's new launcher. Go to www.aadeploy.com for more information about the America's Army Deploy Client.

America's Army: Special Forces (Overmatch) v2.8.4 includes the "Every Soldier a Sensor" (ES2) training mission, a new multiplayer co-operative mission and improved AI performance that reacts in a more realistic manner.

These new Mirror's Edge gameplay trailers show off a couple different intense scenario, where Faith will be expected to run, jump, dodge, kung fu and occasionally shoot her way through. The streaming trailer above is for Flight Level. Mirror's Edge is scheduled to release this fall on consoles and later in the winter for PC.

We are only a few weeks from the release of Legendary, the big Gamecock Media title for the fall/holiday season and today their PR folks sent over some new screenshots of the upcoming first person shooter from developer Spark Unlimited.

The new screenshots show off lots of the monster attacks that are at the heart of Legendary which shows what happens if Pandora's Box was not only a real thing but if someone unwittingly opens up its contents. The new shots show off what looks like a massive tentacled creature that is destroying London. So far there's no word on if a PC demo for Legendary is in the works.

This is Midway's Area 51, a first-person shooter from 2005, complete and free to play. You take on the role of a military squad commander sent in to investigate a base contaminated by an alien mutagenic virus.

"The U.S. Army has received a distress signal from Area 51 where a viral outbreak has just shut down the research facility and the automated quarantine procedures have locked all scientific and military personnel inside. A small Special Forces unit including Specialist Ethan Cole of the HAZMAT (hazardous materials) Division is sent to investigate.

As Cole, players delve into the massive levels within the confines of Area 51, only to discover a deadly mutagenic side effect of the virus that controls the minds of those infected, as well as an ancient alien colony buried beneath the facility. Players will uncover the truth behind chilling conspiracies as they come across the remnants of the extraterrestrial crash at Roswell, alien autopsies, and the faked lunar landing. Cole must solve the enigma of Area 51 before the viral mutagen is released and irrevocably mutates all life on Earth."

The new Left 4 Dead blog site has a new entry which a bit of "bad news-good news" for fans of the upcoming Valve zombine co-op shooter game. The bad news is that it's not really about the game itself; no word on it going gold or any new features that we had not heard about before.

The good news is that the entry is about how Left 4 Dead is in a massive Lego project called Zombie Apocafest. The huge group project is being displayed in Seattle at the annual BrickCon event shows Lego zombies and has a Left 4 Dead billboard along with Lego versions of the game's main characters. There's even some Lego versions of a certain cult classic film involved (which we won't ruin here). In short, this is what building Legos is supposed to be all about; shooting Lego zombies in the head.

We still have a couple of weeks until Ubisoft releases their open world shooter Far Cry 2 but for those of you who pre-order the game from Gamestop have a surprise in store. Gamestop pre-orders will get access to special missions that are not in the regular edition of the game.

There's no word on how players will gain access to the pre-order missions but reportedly they will add up to three additional hours of gameplay in Far Cry 2 across six missions. Since Far Cry 2 supposedly has as much as 50 hours of gameplay already having three more tacted shouldn't even be noticed much The game is still set for release on Oct. 21.

As we reported last week, Valve has now made five Source Engine based mods available directly via download on their Steam download service. The mods (Age of Chivalry, D.I.P.R.I.P., Insurgency, Synergy, and Zombie Panic). will now appear in a Steam user's "My Games" list after being installed and will receive automatic updates just like other games on Steam. Also, all of these mods now take advantage of Steamworks, which provides stat tracking and other features,

If you happen to be one of the two people in the world that doesn't have a Source Engine based game installed already, Valve's regular weekly sale is up your alley. They have reduced the price of their 2006 released first person shooter Half-Life 2: Episode One to $4.99 for this weekend only (it normally costs ($9.99).
